Delivery Robot coming to a doorstep near you

Us humans are an impatient bunch, we want things to be quicker, more efficient and slot in around our busy lives. If you order something online we want it delivered yesterday, unless it’s food then we want it immediately and hot, not lukewarm, not stone cold but scald the roof of your mouth piping hot.

The latest on the streets is the delivery robot, this isn’t exactly new but is being trialled by large company’s. Don’t be alarmed if a robot turns up on your doorstep delivering your online shopping or takeaway. How else will companies be able to keep up with the demands of their consumers without costing them extra money in man power?

Just Eat teamed up with Starship Technologies to trial these robots in London using them in place of takeaway delivery drivers. These little bots can travel at 4 mph for 10 miles, uses GPS and cameras to get around so in theory they won’t get lost or need to ask for directions.

More recently, also working with Starship Technologies was Tesco who trialled this very robot which can hold up to 3 shopping bags and will still work in 20cm of snow. Considering how our public transport grinds to a halt at the hint of a snowflake that is impressive.

Don’t worry about potential thief’s.. ‘Earlier tests found people who tried to break in by jumping on it ended up with it trapped on their leg’, that’s one way to stop a chancer. Customers can access their shopping by typing in a pin and voila access to your shopping.

Future of delivery jobs

This can be a cause for concern for some delivery driver if these mini bundles of circuitry takes off. There will be companies who will find monetary value in using robots for small deliveries, they can only carry up 10 kg or three shopping bags and cheaper to employ.

‘…is cheaper than the average human delivery, costing £1 to transport within a 3 mile radius, compared with the £3 to £6 it costs for a human courier’

There is also the lack of human contact. We do like to complain especially if we can get ventingsomething out of it, that won’t happen with a delivery bot. These robots will remove that human element of being able to complain to the delivery driver when your delivery is late, items are missing or your food is cold! Where is the satisfaction in that?
Off to customer service you go to vent, until to you discover the person on the other end of the phone has been replaced with a chatbot!

Lets look at the pros and cons before we decide to vilify the deliver bot ;

  •  They are efficient, the aim of Start Technologies is to have about 100 robots that would need one person to step in and take over if they needed to
  • Can make short distance deliveries
  • They are secure
  • Won’t get stuck in traffic

  •  No more friendly delivery driver until you yell at them then they are no longer your friend
  • Loss of jobs
  • What happens if they break down on route, malfunction or get lost?

So, what do think, fancy a relative of R2D2 turning up on your doorstep?

I’m exhausted….but a happy bunny! :-D

Though exhausted I feel things are finally coming together and getting back on track. 😀

20140312_NurseCakesMichelle[1]Before the death of my oven I had already agreed to make some cupcakes for my20140312_NurseCakesMichelle2[1] tenant who would be changing jobs and wanted to take in some leaving cupcakes. Still without a working oven I once again took over my mum’s kitchen. I had already made some of the fondant decorations but with 20 cakes ( I made a few extra) to make there were going to be a lot of decorations. My tenant had left it to me to decide what type of decorations to do, so I mixed it up with fondant decorations and simple piped buttercream on top. From what I have heard they were a hit.

I won’t have to annoy my mum and take over her kitchen again as my new cooker has arrived and has been fitted! I haven’t used the oven yet, it’s a friend’s daughter’s birthday coming up so I may test out the oven making her a few birthday cupcakes. Her daughter is into theatre, music as well as the obligatory girlie things so will have a think on how to decorate her cupcakes.

I’m steadily getting back into kickboxing both physically and mentally. To improve my flexibility one of my instructors have advised I do squats and lunges with weights at home. OMG!! Booty, legs the works are feeling the burn! I know the phrase ‘no pain no gain’ buuttt at the moment all I’m getting is the pain, when is the gain coming my way??

My sister is planning an aqiqa; blessing but asian style- for my niece, I needed a new Asian outfit for the occasion as all the ones I’ve got have too many many sequins and design work on them. My brothers girlfriend had decided she would also like to wear an Asian outfit so was invited along to a shopping trip to Ilford Lane, Essex.

She had been warned by my brother and one of his friends about Ilford Lane beforehand though luckily it was a good day. Maybe because the sun was shining or we’d entered the twilight zone but everyone including the other drivers were in a nicer, politer mood.

My youngest sister wasn’t able to come along so I was tasked with trying to find her something, shop after 20140316_FarzanaAsianOutfit[1]shop, I took pictures of so many outfits to send to her all of which weren’t up to standard..I begun to lose the will to live! Finally I found an outfit and in 20140316_FozAsianOutfit[1]the right size for her. When I dropped it off at my parents she was happy with it and it fitted, good thing too because I wasn’t going back to change it! The image to your right was the outfit I got my sister.

The image to your left is the design I got but in a royal blue. It’s long but with heels it looks good, floaty and it was on sale! 😀

Whilst out and about it had started to get late and we also had my niece with us so decided to get some Indian take away, I also got my tenant some chicken curry! By the time I had dropped the clothes off at my parents and got home I was so exhausted, I think I was running on adrenaline as I was a bit hyper, hungry and tired.

Wish me luck, I’m off to get my booty kicked tonight!

Family and the Fajita Master!

Friday evening was cinema night with Housemates. We had been trying to plan so all three of us could go out have dinner and go see the latest Quentin Tarantino film Django.

After  what we were told would be a 15 minutes wait that turned in 30 mins we finally got a table at Nandos. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Afterwards I couldn’t breath, and could just about move but I finished that meal. I did fancy a hot chocolate but I can be a bit fussy with these drinks and so far the only hot chocolate I like are the ones from the coffee shop Costa.

We had already bought our cinema tickets so seating wasn’t a problem. The film itself was everything you would expect from Quentin Tarantino; blood, violence and then more blood and violence! The story line was good but there was a lot of focus on the blood & violence, some parts were quite graphic and I’m not ashamed to say I did close my eyes during the more brutal scenes.

Saturday I was up early, Sorted out some things with youngest brother, married sister phoned to see if I wanted to go see our other brother. My sister had an ulterior motive for going to visit our brother. Nephew #1 hair has grown a life and personality of it’s own-problem; nephew #1 is terrified of having his hair cut. Don’t know why but he refuses to get his hair cut by anyone. The plan was if he sees his uncle having his hair cut then maybe he would be encouraged to do the same.Everything was ok till it came to nephew #1 turn, the cheeky monster climbed into his pushchair and buckled himself in ready to leave the shop! Walking back to brothers flat we passed a few other hairdresser’s and I tried to cajole nephew #1  into having his hair cut, he clearly had given up saying ‘no’ and simply took to ignoring me! Sister may try the hairdresser I go to, though I’m not holding my breath she will be anymore successful. Sister dropped me off home were Housemate #2 was preparing to make fajita’s for us. (I’m spoiled by my housemates) I provided the meat, though not overly religious I try to stick to eating halal. The food turned out excellent! Hence HM #2 earning her name as the ‘Fajita Master’. 😀

20130202_220514[1]Dinner was followed by chocolate fudge cake..I felt like a oompa loompa after eating everything but it was so worth it!

Sunday, I treated myself, Dad had given me a gift voucher at Xmas so I bought a handbag! 20130203_173013[1]Then treated myself to some new clothes :-D. Normally I only get my eyebrows threaded, ladies who have to do this will understand, normally I’ll wax my upper lip at home. This time I also go it threaded…omg! I was pleased with the end result, I wasn’t cut either but still the pain..omg!

After my torture session the plan was to go home, paint my nails then go see a friend. Things didn’t work out like that. I was just about to return a missed call from my married sister when her husband phoned asking to try to get hold of my sister as he was at work. She had phoned him thinking someone had tried to break into the car as all the windows had been wound down. I managed to get hold of my sister who had phoned the police and they were there when I arrived at her house. My dad and her mother in law were also there. Long story short, there was no car break in. Whilst speaking to some of the neighbors  the police discovered there is a feature with the Vauxhall models, if you press the button on the car keys for a period of time the windows will automatically wind themselves down. My sister didn’t know about this feature. She can only think it happened when one of the kids were playing with the keys. Feeling a little bit embarrassed my sister was relieved to know that at least no one had attempted to break into the car, especially as it was parked on her drive. Plus note Nephew #2 took two more steps, bringing him up to 4. Being optimistic he could be walking by his 1st birthday which is in a few weeks. 🙂

February 2012 I skidded on black ice and crashed my car into a tree. CartoonCarCrashFortunately I wasn’t too far from work and I wasn’t hurt. Some guys from work had to pull my car out of the ditch  my car was stuck in. I had the essentials repaired. This week I have had to get the grill, bumper and a new license plate on my car sorted out, before the entire grill decides to separate itself from the rest of my car! Luckily a friend at work is able to give me a lift to and from work, so I will be chauffeur driven for a few days. 😀

Me, Myself and I

I seem to have got a bit carried away with my social media blogs that I’ve neglected to write about the other things that have been going on in ‘Foz’s World’.

A friend of mine is getting married this weekend so of I went to buy a new Asian outfit. With my height and shape it can be a bit f a pain to find something. It had been a while since I bought a new Asian outfit and in that time the fashion had changed. The trend at the moment is length of the tops are short at the front and long at the back. This trend would look ok on me if I wasn’t about 5ft! 2 hours later I finally found an anarkali style outfit (It is a long top with legging style trousers) for about £79, this is not a bad price considering the amount of sequins and stitching on the top. Other outfits I saw were coming close to the price of £200.

Luckily my mum didn’t have to adjust this Asian outfit, usually my mum will have to take them in or shorten them to get them to fit.

The leggings are a bit long but thank goodness for heels, no one will even notice.

I have the matching bangles and accessories, with the wave of the magic makeup brush I’ll be all set for the occasion.

I’m no Jamie Oliver but a few weekends back I had a go at making fried chicken wings and homemade wedges with my mum. We were impressed by how well the chicken turned out and no one showed any signs food poisoning.

I’ve been experimenting with making my own bread but have been cheating a little bit using a bread machine to make the dough and then cooking it in the oven. It’s not that I don’t know how to make bread from scratch as I used to do in when I was younger, just these days I don’t have the time.

I’ve not ever made focaccia bread and wanted to have a go but found a cheat method…you maybe sensing a theme here-I can I’ll try to cut corners ;-).  The UK chef, James Martin has produced a line where everything to make said bread is all in a bag ready mixed, all you need to do is add the liquid. It was on sales at Asda (88p) so thought why not. I opted for the garlic and rosemary version.  All of it went into the bread machine and then cooked in the oven. The finished product looked and tasted nice however the flavours weren’t as strong as what I was expecting. Next time I think I will make try to make it from scratch at home.

I would have pictures of the chicken wings, wedges and bread only my family were helping themselves to the finished products faster than everything was getting cooked! So I point the finger of blame onto my family for not having photographic evidence that sometimes my attempts to cook are successful.

Me and brother fancied caked one Saturday and couldn’t be bothered to go to the shops, so we made a quick sponge cake that lasted all of 2 days. With a well deserved cup of tea it was good, even if I do say so myself. 🙂

I’m not sure if I have ‘green fingers’ but this year the plants in my back garden have survived! Woop woop!

There was a moment I thought that for another year in a row I had killed another tomato plant when finally it started producing some tomatoes. 😀

My friend, Natasha got me some plants to help revive my garden, and she is a better gardener than me. I didn’t know that one of the plants she brought was a chilli plant till it started growing them. I was just given strict instructions to water the plant and not let it die! As you can see, so far the plant is in good health.

The other plants Natasha brought and planted as far as I can tell are hanging in there, some even decided to flower.

The slugs and snails have been my adversary throughout the whole ‘keep plants alive’ campaign. If you are a slug / snail lover then I apologise but those unattractive looking creatures had to go. I found some slug and snail pellets at the local garden centre which were kryptonite to the little slimy darlings. My garden resembled a battlefield where the only casualties strewn across the garden were mostly slugs. Maybe the snails decided to evacuate before coming into contact with the pellets.

Though my garden is most definitely not to the same standard that my granddad kept it, I am one up from having a jungle garden and being known as a plant killer!

Now I managed to keep some plants alive I’m thinking I could be ready for some pet fish. 🙂
